Chapter 4 - Home Theme

Every since I played Guild Wars in the Beta, I absolutely loved playing as a monk and a healer. So I ended up buying Prophecies the day it came out.

I loved Pre-Searing and was stunned. The tall walls.. the grassy homeland and a king that rules over the place. Responsibility was put on me to be trained as a Soldier to Defend against our enemy, the Char. Quests were also based on civilan problems rather than out of place occurences.

To me, Pre-Ascalon was the most "Realistic" Enviroment I have ever seen in all 3 Guild Wars Chapters.

I was disappointed to see Ascalon destroyed and turned into a burnt wasteland of rubble (which made the story intersting though) and having Civil War inside our own country was very entertaining. But then.. the storyline quit from there as our party passed onto the shiver peaks.

I love snow, I'm a person of Ice, so in prophieces, I did enjoy the mountain area/trip. But it wasn't like Ascalon. Then there was the huge jungle which didn't suit me well at all.. being completely lost. Then there was the desert area which is kewl for the "Death" theme but still didn't fit the "home" theme.
Then there was the firey volcano which defaintly put the D in Death but still defaintly not home!

Then there was Factions.. hopeing to get the same feeling I did on Pre-Ascalon, it was not so. For one, it was Asian theme, which I know nothing about that culture. The land was beauitful but it was not a home feeling, more like a 2 week vacational trip. Not only that, you are not placed as a Hero, but a sidekick, meaning your actions are either foolish or heroic "by the masters perspective" while in propheices you always ended up being the hero no matter what stupid or honorable things you did.

Factions just rushed everything and I don't need to mention the storyline. While it was a great concept, it wasn't presented well. No one in America, inless your Asian, in my opinion that is, could feel Factions as a "home" theme enviroment.

And then there is Nightfall. Its a great game, but it still lacks the "home" feeling being consumed in a Desert..

Which leads me to my post on Chapter 4. Will there ever again be a Enviroment in Guild Wars that is not destoryed anytime in the near future that players are once again in a home setting enviroment, based on Civil duty as a soldier and the final result a hero? Charging with your comrades into a mercyless envading enemy?

There is no other place in Guild Wars that has such as a setting as Ascalon. It was a place you could call "home" and showed what it was like in yet a Fantasy but realistic society.

I sure do hope Chapter 4 of Guild Wars produces another Ascalon that we can call home. Maybe not "The" Ascalon, but one with such a enviroment to dwell in.

The way you have worded this is so... ethnocentric... I am at a loss as to how to respond.

It makes me feel as if to like pre-searing Ascalon or to like Shing Jea (or perhaps Kamadan) I have to have a race-based motive, which is a very 'slimy' sort of feeling to be left with.

I got what he wanted, but the way it was worded made it come across as an 'ethnic thing' in a disturbing manner.

He doesn't personally identify with Asian or African culture. Guess what? Asia and Africa are 'ethnic thing's. Just because there are real ethnic and cultural differences in the world doesn't mean that every time someone mentions them they are a racist, so quit being so ridiculous.

He didn't even say anything about African CULTURE, either. He said he doesn't want to play in the desert, he wants to play in some area that reminds him of "home".

The following imply an ethnically charged tone:

Emphasis added to make it clear.

It just left the whole thing looking very slimy. There were other ways to say you wanted that kind of environment than to draw into into such an ugly tone.

Wow, i'm suprised you took it so racist. I'm not even a racist, so why bring it up?

I said "your own country" because Ascalon is considered your home in the game which made it a great quality you get when immersed in it.

It was the only city that was really "grassy" like with a country side like others have mentioned, and the only place to have that too.

Factions was Asian Based, Anet even said that, so saying it was Asian is offensive in what way?

Please, I don't want to start a flame war in my own thread, and this whole "he's making racist comments" is really getting this off topic, so please stick on topic moving forward.

Thank You.

You can see what I bolded to see what I found disturbing.

I can excuse insensitivity to a point, but if you read what I bolded and then say it is not ill-toned, that only proves that you are not just insensitive, you actually are racist.
