Calling all Beastmasters: The Grand Pet Survey

All right, I'm finally all geared up to do the pet tests to begin determining the stats of each individual pet. These tests will be held in PvP. I will be the sponge/damage dealer, since I'm an E/W with 60 AL (100% damage taken) and I can use both melee and spells for determining the pet's AL. I'll also be recording all the data, since I'll be the only one that can see it. At long last, we'll have some cold, hard information on the difference between Dune Lizards and Bears, and all the others.

RULES & REQUIREMENTS: These are to ensure accurate results.
-Both you and your pet must be level 20.
-You must be able to change your BeastMastery from 12 to 0 (or 0 to 12, as long as you tell me) during the course of the tests.
-There will be no use of skills by the pet's owner -- no buffing, no pet attacks. Pet heals are allowed.
-I only need one pet of each type, so if I've already done the wolf I don't need another. We will also assume that Ascalon Wolves and Snow Wolves as well as Striders and Moa Birds are identical. They use the exact same model, I doubt they're different.

TEST 1 - Pet Damage: This test is the hardest and most exhaustive. It has two parts: 0 Beastmastery and 12 Beastmastery. I will record the damage dealt by the pet over 20 hits. Over the course of 20 hits, I'll be able to figure out the critical hit rate increase from 0 to 12 BM, and also the base attack power increase. I should also be able to get the pet's damage range, assuming they don't have static damage. In the case of the Bear's Brutal Mauling skill, I will note when the skill was used to determine the damage increase over regular attacks. Unless someone happens to be able to heal me, I'll be using Healing Signet to keep myself alive -- I'll note that any damage taken while using it needs to be divided by 2.

TEST 2 - Pet Attack Speed: A relatively easy test. I'll just use a stop watch program (that I can develop myself) to get the pet's attack speed. I'll time this one over the course of 10 hits.

TEST 3 - Pet Defense (Elemental): Again, a relatively simple test. I will set my fire magic to 12 for 100% damage. After noting the damage the spell does, I'll hit the pet with it (just a Flare; possibly Fireball). There should be no need for repeated hits, since spell damage is constant. At the current time, I simply can't redistribute my attribute points sufficently to test all the elements. We'll have to test for elemental weakness/resistance another time.

TEST 4 - Pet Defense (Physical): I'll jack my swordsmanship up to level 12 for 100% damage again. I will be using an un-customized 14-20 Fellblade. I'll take the damage over the course of 20 hits again, to account for critical hits and the damage range of the sword.

RESULTS: I'll publish all the raw data for each pet in this topic so that others may recheck my results. I'll also post the "final" results for each pet in the post as well.

THE PETS: Here's the full pet list, and the owners that volunteer to participate with them. ^_^
Melandru's Stalker - ????
Lynx* - ????
Wolf - ????
Moa Bird - ????
Warthog - ????
Bear - Zero
Dune Lizard - PvtSnowball
Dire Spider - Superflyfly

*Although the Lynx and the Stalker are very similar and use the same model, they may be a bit different. For this reason, both should be tested. If, during the test, the results mimic those of the Stalker, we can call the test off.

You can contact me on Nineveh Valachron or Syris Hunter in-game. If you'd like to participate in the tests with your level 20 pet, please respond to the post with your pet-using character's in-game name and what type of pet it is. :3

Zero, if you'd be kind enough to sticky this, that'd be great. That way everyone with pets that may want to participate will know, and we won't have to go digging it up constantly. Once all the data is finished, it can be added to your Pet sticky, and fall off the board. Thanks. :3

I've done some searching. We will be holding the pet tests in the Droknar's Forge PVP arena, international districts. It's generally almost entirely empty, and should be the perfect place to run the tests.

I'll be taking the pets in whomever comes first -- so if you happen to have a pet that hasn't been tested but someone else is listed as having "claimed" it, you can still submit. Your name will be added to the contact list, so the first one to do the tests with me will be the one for that pet. ^_^

Current update:
Melandru's Stalker - ????
Lynx* - ????
Wolf - ????
Moa Bird - ????
Warthog - ????
Bear - Zero
Dune Lizard - PvtSnowball
Dire Spider - Superflyfly, Forsaken Mesaana (Anarki)

Count me in, I've got a Melandru's Stalker. I'm Random Engy/Grant Nexus .

(edit) Isn't there a moss spider too? Or is that the same as a Dire Spider?

Moss Spiders are from Pre-searing, and aren't tameable. Dire Spiders/Black Widows are from The Underworld and can be tamed.

Thanks for volunteering your Melandru. ^_^

On another note, it seems that arranging these PVP battles in the arena is a major pain in the rear. I can try to muster the help of my guildmates, but if anyone can help muster 6 other people to form the two teams necessary, that'd be great so we can actually get this all in order. Or if anyone else has any ideas on how to specifically arrange PVP battles, that'd be good too. ^^

Thanks for the sticky. ^_^/)

I'll start mustering people to help with the arrangement of the teams. I think my guildies will be willing to help later in the night.

I've got an idea... arrange a time where all the testers can meet at once. That way we'll have at least close to the 8 people neccessary to start a PVP match without big interference.

Today's my birthday, so I'll be going out for dinner tonight. I should be on from 9:00 PM to 12:00 (or later) AM EST if anyone wants to give this a swing tonight. I've posted on my guild forum, so hopefully I can get a few people to help.
