Ah, so you invest in multiple sets of 15k armor? That might explain the gap between our gold reserves. I typically only have one suit of armor on a character, although this is changing with Factions. I generally try to create armor sets that can suit a variety of builds, and if I must create pieces to accomodate minor/superior runes, then I create them on gloves and boots as those are cheaper to replicate than the chest/leggings.
Nope just one 15k set because previous to factions I only liked one look out of the 15k sets for each profession but a number of the non 15k sets I liked the look on or the stats it had. But now with factions there is a number of armor sets both 15k and not that I like the looks of and will eventually probably get them if space allows for them as it is now something needs to be done so the space is better used for items like armor or simply just add more inven spaces or something.
I'm not sure if I mentioned it here but I can tell you with a +/- 10k how much gold I have earned aka spent so far to date. Prior to factions coming out I had spent 400k (5 15k sets, a numer of low cost greens, and 1.5k armor sets [only a couple characters had more than one set]). That's over about 1200 hours maybe 1400 hours. Which means even if was missing over 100k worth of stuff which is not possible thats less than 500g per hour gotten from the game. I'm just glad factions it is much better, ranging from 1-5k per hour. I have spend so far about 20k on armor due to a lack of rare materials for the 1.5k armor and only have 1 set on each of my two canthan characters. But quickly got that all back from playing.

Wow -- in my experience, its been the exact opposite: I make much less from Factions than I did in Prophesies. In Tyria, I would get weapon drops that I could usually sell to the merchant for around 50-75g each. Factions seems to have more of the 20g collectors items.

I was hit probably in the top 10% worst cases of the drop system bug. I'm sure you've seen my posts relaying the number of gold and purple items I got prior to the fix. Most white items averaged about 30-40g and I rarely got blue items much over 70-80g. With factions Whites avg no less than 50g, blues no less than 80-90g, purple 1 per about 2 hours, gold 1 per about 3 hours. With all that plus the quest rewards it makes a huge difference.
In prophecies I was able to save and work and get my armor just a little bit after I reached the place to get it. In Factions for my spiritist to get about 90amber is kind of a life's work, and unrealistic.
I wish we could go buy armor in prophecies for our factions chars. For instance the ranger outfits mainly have those bell bottom pants with skinny legs on top, i don't like it. None of the ranger outfits are really nice.
Monk outfits are kind of 'overdressed'. I preferred most of the prophecies outfits in general, I am keeping my necromancer and ranger outfits from prophecies,(won't make faction chars), haven't seen anything betterin clothing in factions, and the cost is staggering.
P.S. Love the Factions Mesmer armor though :) and elementalist is a huge improvement too (slight improvement in hair styles for eles but still not a good range, and the faces still look dumb)
You can buy armor for factions and prohecies for either tyrian or canthan so long as you have both expantions and the foot power to get to the locations.

Part of the problem for me is that I have existing lvl 20 chars in addition to new characters. And ofc I want new armor for all of them, which seriously strains my bank account. If I was only clothing my new characters, I'd probably have enough money.

Wow for me with the exception of a couple armor skins I think all the faction armors make nearly all prophesies even the 15k stuff look like colecovision combared to PS2 titles. I mean a lot of the 1.5k armor from factions look 100 times better than many of the 15k armor from prophesies. A perfect example of this is the female monk armor. The factions 1.5k armor makes prophesies 15k armor look like its worse than 1.5k armor on a scale of quality differences.
personally, i prefer combining different armors. a lot of you complain about the new sets but did you try matching them with the old ones? for example i have my prophecies necro equipped with tormentors boots, canthan top and gloves (from the collectors - cheap huh :)) and leg scar pattern and it looks awesome. i would post a pic but i don't have photoshop here to cut it out - will do that later from my home PC.
i got the imperial armor for my female assassin and i love it except for the top with funny spikes - also solvable. there is seitung for that. or canthan, luxon or kurzick 15k tops if you want to spend that much money. be creative!
i find that investing in black dye is more profitable than investing in whole new sets of armor simply because different sets usually match perfectly when black. with all these pics available here you could easily construct the best (and unique!) combo for you and work/fight your way to it.
also, i couldn't agree more with the comment about female ele chars and armors. i deleted my first char ever because it was plain ugly and made me sick even if she was lvl 20. i was hoping to get more interesting looks and armors in factions for eles but alas, even worse. kind of a failed attempt between pole dancers and fairies. i just had to make a male ele...
and just one question if you don't mind. can you dye a normal droks scar pattern to black? i never saw one and i'm playing for quite a while (maybe blind lol) and i wouldn't like to waste a black dye if it is impossible.
